What is the meaning of “distance education” in the IPLeiria?

It is a teaching/learning mode (also known as online learning) that does not require the simultaneous presence of the teacher and students in the same physical space and time. The student can develop his work independently although it is linked in a virtual class called “virtual community”. It’s a kind of teaching developed in a Web environment, where participants have communication tools that allow them to interact and communicate with colleagues and teachers.

In which differs from face-to-face learning?

Contrary to what happens in the tradicional classroom which forces the student to attend school in a place and time pre-set, in the distance learning student develops his work autonomously, determining  his own time, place and pace of work.

What is the meaning of “bLearning”?

It is a teaching/learning mode that combines face-to-face sessions with online activities.

What tools do I need to use?

You should have access to a personal computer or mobile device with Internet connection. It is advisable to have headphones with microphone if synchronous sessions are scheduled. You should also have the browser updated.

There are any prerequisites?

Students must have minimum skills to use computer, Internet and email.

Where can I access the classes?

You can access to the contents and activities of each course, available on the eLearning platform, from anywhere as long as you have Internet connection.

What is the schedule of classes?

With the exception of the synchronous or face-to-face sessions (if any are scheduled), the online work is not marked in terms of “classes”, but structured by modules and activities that take place during a period of time (days/weeks). Each activity should be developed within the time scheduled in the beginning of the course.

When do I have to work?

Students have freedom in determining their own work schedules. You should only take into account that there are pre-established dates for face-to-face sessions and for delivery of  online tasks and if there are group activities you must have to coordinate the work with the other team members.

How many hours do I need to work a day?

Online work requires dedication and persistence, although is characterised by flexibility and autonomy. The activities will be accompanied by an estimate of the minimum time needed for your development.

Do I really have to participate in face-to-face classroom?

The requirement depends on its purpose and the specificity of each course, and must be parsed with the professor.

What happens in the disciplines with laboratory practices?

Some disciplines use the face-to-face sessions of lab, digital content with simulations or virtual labs. Can still occur study visits to institutions.

Who are the teachers?

Distance learning teachers are specialists in the areas of the different scientific disciplines. They conceive the activities/content and monitor and evaluate the whole process of teaching/learning.

How will I be assessed?

At the beginning of each semester are provided the evaluation  methods and the criteria in each course.

There is any attendancee control?

A quem me posso dirigir?
